The second largest city in the Indian state of Gujarat is Vadodara, sometimes referred to as Baroda. It is located on the banks of the Vishwamitri River, 141 kilometers (88 miles) from the state capital of Gandhinagar, and acts as the Vadodara district’s administrative center. Vadodara is traversed by National Highway 8 and the railway line that links Delhi and Mumbai. The presence of Banyan (Vad) trees in the city gave it its name. Heavy Water Project, Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GIPCL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), and Gas Authority of India Limited are more large-scale public sector organizations. The manufacturing of power equipment, rail cars, and military aircraft is also centered in Vadodara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 35% of India’s power transmission and distribution equipment producers are based in Vadodara, along with an estimated 800 ancillary businesses that support the major players in the sector’s engineering and equipment manufacturing. “Knowledge City” has been built in Vodadara by Larsen & Tourbo (L&T). The L&T Knowledge City serves as the center for many of the L&T Group’s important enterprises. Operating out of the plant is the Power business, Mid & Downstream Hydrocarbon, L&T Technology Services, and engineering joint venture L&T-Sargent & Lundy. Additionally, switchgear, air circuit breakers (ACBs), and moulded case circuit breakers are manufactured there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with other manufacturers like Alstom, Siemens, and Voltas, Canadian corporation Bombardier Transportation has built a rail coach manufacturing facility in Savli. Coaches for the Delhi Metro and Brisbane, Australia’s New Generation Rollingstock are both made at this facility. Additionally, the facility produces trainsets for the Delhi-Meerut RRTS. In addition to this, Vadodara occupies a significant place in Gujarat’s pharmaceutical industry due to the presence of numerous small and large pharma enterprises there. Gujarat and India’s economies both rely heavily on Vadodara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of a Rs 22,000 crore agreement to provide 56 of these aircraft, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), a joint venture between the Tata Group and Airbus, has established a C-295 transport aircraft production facility in Vadodara. The C-295 will take the place of the Avro jets now used by the Indian Air Force. Vadodara will become a center for military production because of this project. In September 2026, the first airplane produced in India is anticipated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taxes, service supply, and financial support from the state government all contribute to the city’s financial stability.
