What Real Migration Data Shows About Cloud Hosting in India
Let’s look beyond benchmarks. The migration records show common patterns and risks when it comes to moving to cloud hosting in India. The following insights are based on 500 anonymized WordPress-to-managed-hosting migrations that were completed between July and September 2026 on eWebGuru’s platform.

58% of migrations came from cPanel shared hosting. Most customers are moving from entry-level shared plans to gain better performance and control.
Mismatches in the PHP version caused 31% of pre-migration compatibility checks to fail. Outdated PHP versions on old hosts were the only biggest hurdle before migration.
Migrations with a staging environment had 4.2x fewer post-launch issues. Testing on a staging site before going live reduced errors after going live.
WordPress represented 71% of migrations and WooCommerce required 1.8x more database optimization time. WooCommerce stores needed extra tuning for products, orders, and transients.
Missing DNS TTL planning caused 19% of avoidable propagation delays. Many delays could have been reduced by lowering DNS TTL 24 to 48 hours before the cut-over.
What this means for you:
If you are moving from shared hosting, plan for PHP and plugin compatibility checks. Always test on a staging site before going live. For WooCommerce, expect extra database tuning during migration. Coordinate DNS changes with your team to avoid unnecessary downtime.

Pricing Comparison (INR)
Cloud server pricing in India varies by vCPU, RAM, storage, bandwidth, backups, and managed support. These figures mentioned below are indicative monthly prices for entry-level or comparable configurations as of October 2026.
| Provider | Indicative starting price | Example configuration or basis | Billing model |
| AWS EC2 Mumbai | From about ₹620/month for a small always-on Linux instance | Compute only; storage and bandwidth is extra | Per-second, 60-second minimum |
| Google Cloud Mumbai/Delhi | Usage-based; free tier may apply to eligible e2-micro use | Compute Engine; disk and egress extra | Per-second, one-minute minimum |
| Microsoft Azure India | About ₹2,700/month for a 2 vCPU/4 GB B2s Linux VM | Compute only; disk and bandwidth extra | Pay-as-you-go or commitment pricing |
| DigitalOcean Bangalore | From US4/month; 1GB Basic Droplet at US6/month | 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 25 GB SSD, 1,000 GiB transfer | Per-second with monthly cap |
| Akamai Cloud/Linode India | From about US$5/month for entry-level cloud compute | Basic cloud VM; confirm India-region pricing | Hourly or bundled monthly pricing |
| eWebGuru | From ₹249/month | 1 core, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB NVMe; managed VPS | Monthly plan pricing |
| Hostinger India | Plans changes often | Managed cloud plans with NVMe storage | Term-based plan pricing |
| GoDaddy India | Plans changes often | Hosting plans rather than a direct cloud VM | Term-based pricing |
If your workload needs more dedicated resources than a cloud VPS, see our guide on cheap dedicated server hosting use cases.
The advertised price is not the full cost. Include storage, data transfer, backups, management, licences, GST, and renewal pricing before comparing providers. A ₹249 managed VPS and a US$4 unmanaged VM are not the same products.
Performance & Latency in India
My experience of managing cloud workloads for Indian businesses says that data-centre location has the biggest immediate effect on latency.
The Google Cloud’s documentation recommends us to choose the region closest to users for lower latency, and its India regions include Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2).
AWS also positions its Mumbai and Hyderabad regions for Indian workloads. That’s evident with 33 CloudFront edge locations across cities including Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.
When I tested Indian IPs, I saw lower round-trip times from Mumbai or Delhi regions than from Singapore or Europe.
Public latency comparisons report Mumbai-to-Mumbai round-trip times of roughly 5 to 15 ms, while Delhi-to-Mumbai is often around 30 to 45 ms. The Singapore routes are much higher most times.
For a recent WordPress benchmark, eWebGuru’s managed NVMe cloud plan delivered a median TTFB of about 210 ms from Indian test locations. That was better when compared with around 620 ms on typical shared hosting.
In my recommendation for most Indian users, Mumbai is right for broad national coverage, Hyderabad is good for southern and central India, and Delhi NCR for north India. Google also advises keeping compute and storage in the same zone to reduce request latency.
What this means for you:
Choose the region closest to your primary audience, test real latency before committing, and use CDN caching for users outside that region.
Support & Managed Services
If I consider the cloud migrations and support cases I have handled, the difference between a good and poor provider appears clearly after the server is live. It’s not evident during sign-up.
AWS provides 24/7 technical support on Business Support and higher plans. Their target response is under one hour for production systems down and under 30 minutes for business-critical outages. The Enterprise Support targets under 15 minutes.
Google Cloud Premium Support offers a 15-minute response SLO for P1 business-critical cases, while Standard Support targets four-hour responses during business hours.
Azure’s Professional Direct plan targets one hour for critical business impact and two hours for moderate impact, with 24/7 access for critical cases.
For Indian SMBs, I look beyond SLA tables. I see whether the provider offers live chat, phone escalation, proactive monitoring, backups, security patching, and migration help. A managed provider that handles updates, restores, and incident response can save significant internal engineering time.
What this means for you:
If you lack a dedicated DevOps team, prioritise managed support and clear escalation paths over the lowest advertised price. For production workloads, confirm the exact response-time SLA, support hours, and whether the plan includes hands-on server management.
Security, Compliance & DPDP Considerations
I have been consistently reviewing hosting and migration setups for Indian businesses for the past several years. I see security and data-residency requirements before recommending a cloud provider.
India’s DPDP Act, 2023 does not require all personal data to be stored in India, but it allows the government to restrict cross-border transfers to specified countries or territories. The DPDP Rules, 2025 also introduce additional obligations for Significant Data Fiduciaries, including audits, impact assessments. In certain cases, it’s also local storage requirements for specified data.
From what I have seen across hosting projects, the practical checklist is simple:
- Always choose an Indian region if your users or compliance requirements strictly need it.
- Next, verify the provider’s security certifications. Confirm who is responsible for patching, backups, and incident response.
AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure offer Indian regions and enterprise-grade security controls. On the other side, the managed Indian providers can reduce the operational burden for smaller teams.
What this means for you
If you process Indian personal data, document where it is stored, restrict unnecessary cross-border transfers. Make sure your hosting provider supports encryption, access controls, backups, and clear data-processing responsibilities.
Who Should Choose Which Cloud Server Provider?
I have been reviewing hosting requirements for Indian businesses for a long time. That tells me to match the provider to the workload, team capability, and budget, not to a single “best” label.
Best for Enterprises with Complex, Regulated, or Global workloads
AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure are the stronger choices here. AWS supports enterprise AI use cases such as fraud detection, predictive maintenance, and real-time customer analytics
Best for Data-Heavy and Analytics-Led Businesses
Google Cloud is a strong option where BigQuery, Vertex AI, and managed Kubernetes are central to the architecture.
Best for startups and developers building web or mobile apps
DigitalOcean is designed for developer-led teams and offers low-cost Basic, General Purpose, CPU-Optimised, and Memory-Optimised Droplets.
Best for Budget-Focused SMBs and Simple Websites
Hostinger India, eWebGuru, and GoDaddy India can be practical choices when managed support, predictable pricing, and Indian billing matter more than a large hyperscaler service catalogue.
Best for Businesses Needing Managed Indian infrastructure
eWebGuru, Hostinger India, and GoDaddy India are worth evaluating if you prefer local support and less day-to-day server administration.
Best for AI Experimentation and Inference
DigitalOcean offers GPU Droplets for deep learning, NLP, and AI experimentation, while AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure provide broader enterprise AI platforms.
