Rollback is part of the plan, not an emergency. Your source environment stays intact and running until the migration is validated. If something fails at cutover, traffic returns to the original environment while we investigate — you are never left without a working production system.

For business-critical applications, taking production offline for hours isn't practical. Where the workload supports it, we build the destination first, replicate data while your current environment keeps serving traffic, test, then synchronise and switch — so production downtime is limited to the cutover window rather than the whole migration.

The actual downtime depends on the application architecture, database, data volume and migration method. We give you the expected window in writing after the assessment, and we plan cutover around your quietest traffic period rather than ours.

We don't treat a DNS change as the migration. The objective is a transition that is controlled and predictable, with a tested environment on the other side of it and a way back if it isn't.

Don't Simply Recreate Your Old Server in the Cloud

The most common migration mistake is taking an existing physical or VPS specification and reproducing it in the cloud without checking what the workload actually uses. Cloud bills for what you provision, so an oversized copy costs you every month.

What is cloud migration?
Cloud migration is the process of moving servers, applications, databases, data and related infrastructure from an existing environment to a cloud platform.
Is the migration assessment really free?
Yes. You get a written report covering what needs to migrate, the recommended approach, the target environment, the expected downtime window and a fixed quote. The report is yours whether or not you go ahead.
Will my website experience downtime?
Some downtime at cutover is usually unavoidable, but it's limited to the switch itself rather than the whole migration. We build the destination first, replicate data while your current environment stays live, test it, run a final synchronisation and then move traffic. The expected window is confirmed in writing after the assessment.
What happens if something goes wrong during cutover?
Your source environment stays intact and running until the migration is validated. If validation fails at cutover, traffic returns to the original environment while we investigate, so you always have a working production system.
How long does a cloud migration take?
It depends on the environment. A single-server migration is usually a short project; multi-server applications and complex databases need more planning and testing. We give you an expected timeline after the assessment rather than a guess before it.
Who owns the cloud account after migration?
You do. The destination account stays in your name and the cloud provider bills you directly. eWebGuru does not resell cloud infrastructure, so there's no markup and no lock-in.
Are there hidden costs in moving data?
Two items catch people out: data egress charges from your current provider while data is transferred, and Windows Server or SQL Server licensing in the destination cloud. We identify both during assessment so they appear in your plan rather than on a later invoice.
Can you migrate from another cloud provider?
Yes. Cloud-to-cloud migration is possible depending on the workload, architecture and services in use, and it's assessed the same way as any other migration.
Can you migrate Windows and Linux servers?
Yes, both. That includes Windows Server workloads with IIS, ASP.NET and SQL Server, and Linux websites, applications, databases and server environments.
Do you migrate WordPress websites and databases?
Yes. WordPress sites with their databases, files, DNS and server configuration are migrated as a unit, as are MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
Do you migrate mailboxes and email?
Yes, but email and mailbox migration is quoted separately from server and application migration, because the effort depends on the mail platform, mailbox count and data volume. Tell us about your mail setup during the assessment and we'll quote it alongside the project.
Is this the same as the free migration included with eWebGuru hosting?
No. Free migration applies to moving websites onto an eWebGuru hosting plan. Cloud migration is a scoped project covering assessment, architecture design, staged migration, testing and a planned production cutover, and is quoted per project.
Do I need to stay with eWebGuru after migration?
No. Migration and ongoing management are separate services. Every project includes 14 days of post-migration support; after that you can manage the environment yourself or move to Server Management or Managed AWS if you'd prefer we ran it.
