Ask whoever built your site what it's written in. If the answer contains PHP, WordPress or MySQL, take Linux. If it contains .NET, ASP or SQL Server, take Windows. Starting from scratch with no developer? Take Linux — the entire WordPress ecosystem is built for it and it costs less.

Cheap web hosting, without the parts that make it cheap

Hosting can be sold at almost any price if the seller is willing to hide the cost somewhere. Four things to check on any low-priced plan — ours included.

The renewal price, not the signup price

A first-year rate of ₹49 that renews at ₹399 isn't cheap hosting, it's a loan. Ask what the plan costs in year two before you buy, from us or from anyone else. Our term price is our renewal price.

Whether backups exist, and where they live

"Backups included" sometimes means a copy sitting on the same disk as your website. When that disk fails, both copies go together. Ours are written to separate storage, weekly, on every plan — which is the entire point of a backup.

The limits nobody advertises

"Unlimited" plans still have inode caps, entry-process limits and CPU allowances. They're normal and necessary on shared hosting. What matters is whether they're written down. If a host won't tell you the numbers, that's your answer.

Shared hosting in India spans a wide range, and the spread is mostly about how many accounts share a server rather than about hardware. At the bottom of the market you're one of several hundred sites on a box; at the top you're paying for a private VPS. Here's roughly where the money goes:

Two things are worth saying plainly. First, below about ₹1,000 a year you are usually looking at either an oversold server or an introductory rate that jumps sharply on renewal — the hosting itself costs money to run, and nobody is absorbing that out of goodwill. Second, paying more doesn't automatically buy you more: a ₹5,000 shared plan on an overloaded server is worse than a ₹1,500 one on a sensible server. What you're really buying at every price point is how many neighbours you have and who answers when something breaks.
