Datacenter edition

Remote Desktop Services (RDS) CALs

Legacy Releases

Windows Server 2016 remains under Microsoft extended support until January 2027 and is available on request for genuine legacy compatibility requirements — though we will recommend 2019 or later for anything new. Windows Server 2012 R2 and earlier reached end of extended support in October 2023 and we will not deploy them on new builds.

A Windows server is not a Linux box with a GUI on top — it is a different architecture, and it deserves infrastructure built around it. When your stack is IIS, ASP.NET, .NET Core or Microsoft SQL Server, dedicated hardware gives you:

We provision Windows dedicated servers on the same enterprise hardware as our Linux fleet — Intel Xeon Scalable, AMD EPYC, DDR4/DDR5 ECC RAM, NVMe storage — but the software stack, licensing and support workflow are built for the Windows ecosystem.

What "Fully Managed" Means on Windows Server

Our managed scope on Windows differs from our Linux workflow, because Windows administration differs. Concretely, we handle:

  • OS installation and activation — genuine Microsoft licensing, activation and WSUS patch management
  • IIS hardening — application pool isolation, request filtering, URL Rewrite rules, TLS 1.2/1.3 configuration
  • RDP security — Network Level Authentication, brute-force lockout, non-default port configuration, gateway and certificate-based authentication where required
  • SQL Server tuning — TempDB placement and sizing, max server memory caps, backup maintenance plans, and Always On Availability Group setup on Enterprise edition
  • Windows Update management — tested patch cycles inside an agreed maintenance window. We do not push Patch Tuesday straight onto production
  • Active Directory setup — forest and domain configuration, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and replication topology, on request
  • Hardware monitoring and replacement — SMART disk health, RAID controller alerts and thermal thresholds. A failed disk, RAM module or motherboard is replaced within 6 hours at the outside, and in practice usually within about 2

You retain full Administrator access. Managed means we watch the server when you are not logged in — not that we restrict what you install.

How a Server Gets Built and Kept Running

Internet Information Services (IIS)

IIS 10 is pre-installed and tuned on every managed Windows dedicated server. IIS has remained at version 10.0 across Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025, so configuration and modules carry forward cleanly between releases. We configure application pools for process isolation, enable dynamic compression, set up URL Rewrite for clean URLs, and harden against common Windows-specific attack paths.

.NET Framework and .NET 8 / 9

We install and configure the full stack — from .NET Framework 4.8 for legacy ASP.NET Web Forms applications through to .NET 8 and 9 for modern cross-platform APIs. Kestrel behind IIS as a reverse proxy is our recommended pattern for high-throughput .NET workloads.

Which one we usually install

SolidCP and WebsitePanel are the open-source route for Windows hosting management — workable if you are comfortable maintaining the panel yourself.

If the box runs a single application — one ASP.NET Core API, one ERP install, one RDS session host — skip the panel entirely. Pure RDP with IIS Manager gives you more RAM for the application and one less attack surface to patch. We provide fully managed support on servers with no control panel at all.

Who Needs a Windows Dedicated Server

  • ASP.NET and .NET Core applications — MVC, Web API, Blazor and SignalR applications run directly on IIS with the .NET stack they were built against, with no compatibility layer in between.
  • Microsoft SQL Server workloads — if your schema depends on T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS or CLR integration, Windows keeps compatibility and administration simpler than a cross-platform build.
  • Enterprise ERP and CRM — Dynamics 365, SAP Business One, TallyPrime Server and other Windows-native business applications need a Windows Server environment with guaranteed resources.
  • Active Directory and internal IT — host your domain controller, file server, print server and Group Policy infrastructure on dedicated hardware inside India for data residency and low latency.
  • Remote Desktop Services — publish Windows applications or full desktops to remote teams. Dedicated hardware means session host performance does not degrade when another tenant spikes.
  • Hyper-V virtualisation — run isolated Windows or Linux VMs on your own node. Datacenter licensing makes this cost-effective at density.
  • Legacy application hosting — classic ASP, VB.NET or older .NET Framework applications that have not been ported. Windows Server 2019 is still useful when an application has not been tested on a newer release.

Choose dedicated if you are running SQL Server Standard or Enterprise on datasets above a few hundred GB, hosting RDS for more than a handful of concurrent users, running Hyper-V, or if compliance requires single-tenant hardware.

Choose Windows if your application is built on .NET, your database is MSSQL, your team administers over RDP, or you need Active Directory.

Migrating an Existing Windows Server to eWebGuru

Moving a Windows environment requires more care than a Linux file tree. Active Directory metadata, IIS application pools, MSSQL logins and registry settings do not copy across cleanly. Our process:

  1. Stack audit — we document your current Windows version, IIS sites and bindings, MSSQL instances, .NET versions, RDP configuration and installed roles
  2. Provisioning — your new server is built to a matching or improved Windows edition and patch level
  3. Data sync — website files, databases and user accounts transfer while your source server stays live
  4. DNS cutover — after a final delta sync and application testing, DNS is repointed
  5. Post-migration verification — IIS bindings, SSL certificates, MSSQL connectivity and RDP access are all confirmed before you decommission the old box

We regularly migrate Windows servers from GoDaddy, HostGator, BigRock and other providers, including cross-grades from older Windows Server versions to supported releases during the move. Migration is free on all dedicated plans.

What is a Windows dedicated server?

Do I get full Administrator and RDP access?
Yes. Every Windows dedicated server includes full Administrator access over Remote Desktop Protocol. You can install any software, configure IIS, create MSSQL databases, and manage the server graphically or through PowerShell.
Which Windows Server versions do you offer?
We deploy Windows Server 2025, 2022 and 2019 Standard by default. Datacenter editions are available for high-density virtualisation. Windows Server 2016 is available on request for legacy compatibility — it remains under Microsoft extended support until January 2027. We do not deploy Windows Server 2012 R2 or earlier on new builds.
Is the Windows Server licence included in the price?
Yes. Every price in our plans table includes Windows Server Standard licensing for that configuration's socket count, single or dual. Datacenter and SQL Server licences are quoted separately.
Can I install SQL Server on my Windows dedicated server?
Yes — Express, Standard or Enterprise. Our engineers install, configure and tune MSSQL as part of managed onboarding. Licensing is available under SPLA rental with no upfront Microsoft cost.
What control panels work on Windows?
cPanel does not run on Windows. We recommend Plesk Obsidian, which integrates natively with IIS, ASP.NET and MSSQL. We also support SolidCP and WebsitePanel, or no panel at all for pure RDP administration.
Can I run Hyper-V and virtual machines?
Yes. Windows Server Standard permits two virtualised instances on a licensed host; Datacenter includes unlimited Windows Server VM rights, which is what you want for dense Hyper-V environments.
How long does provisioning take?
Standard configurations are deployed within 6 to 24 hours of payment verification, including OS installation, activation, initial patching and RDP configuration. Custom builds or specific Active Directory topologies may take up to 48 hours.
Should I choose a dedicated server or a Windows VPS?
Choose dedicated if you run SQL Server Standard or Enterprise on large datasets, host RDS for multiple concurrent users, need Hyper-V, or require single-tenant hardware for compliance. A Windows VPS is the better starting point for one or two applications with a modest database.
Can I migrate from my current Windows host?
Yes, free of charge. We migrate IIS sites, MSSQL databases, user accounts, DNS records and SSL certificates, and we handle version cross-grades during the move.
What is the difference between Standard and Datacenter edition?
Standard covers physical or lightly virtualised workloads with rights to two virtual instances on the licensed host. Datacenter includes unlimited Windows Server virtual machine rights and is built for dense Hyper-V, software-defined networking and Storage Spaces Direct.
Do you support Active Directory and domain controller setup?
Yes, on managed plans — forest and domain configuration, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and replication between multiple Windows servers.
What happens if my hardware fails?
We monitor all dedicated hardware proactively. A failed disk, RAM module, motherboard or PSU is replaced within 6 hours at the outside, and typically in about 2. When it is a hard disk, we reattach the faulty drive to your server as a secondary disk so you can attempt to pull data off it if you do not have a current backup. Your Windows licence stays activated on the replacement hardware.
Is there a minimum contract period?
Yes, 30 days.
